HoTS ADL: Help Wanted

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

From the looks of it everyone seems to be having a great time getting into HoTS. So I believe it's time to start working on starting an ADL. I will start working on the foundation of the ADL this week and would like to ask anyone that is interested in helping with this process to comment or PM me.

Some of task to get done this week include:

  • Scoring System
  • Drafting process
  • How to rank people for drafting purposes
  • Date/Time of ADL

I would like to have an in-house mock ADL before or by Monday, June 22nd (2 weeks).

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hey Bardo I have some suggestions:

1) For a scoring system, I think it should be win/loss base with an MVP chosen by the team members of both winning and losing side.

2)  Drafting process should use the highest ranking team members as captains choosing others.  Players should put their 3 best roles in comments (i.e. Ranged Assassin, Tank, Healer/support), to help balance out teams.  Hots is a little trickier because there isn't a standard Top, Mid, Bot/support, Jungler.  There are no real set lanes based off that.  The meta I see now is more along the lines of 2 Assassins (either 2 ranged, or 1 ranged 1 melee) Tank, Support (either ranged or melee) and Specialist (usually ranged).

3)  Ranking people can be done 1 of 2 ways.

         a) We can take people's hero league number (lower the better) and situate people that way, with leaving non-ranked players in a separate pool.

b ) We can use http:/www.hotslogs.com to get everyone's MMR for HL and Quick Match.  Hots Logs appears to be the standard of ranking for                          figuring out MMR.  You simply download the Hots Logs program, install and run it.  It will upload every gameplay demo that you have recorded                    (its on by default).  Hotslogs then runs an algorithm to compare and contrast based off of W/L Ratios to give a player an MMR.  Here is an                          example of my HotsLogs info page

              https://www.hotslogs.com/Player/Profile?PlayerID=1613451

It gives pretty comprehensive information but most importantly an MMR rating as well as a Tier (i.e. Silver/Platinum).

I think that we should use QM MMR as a baseline until we get more people in for ranked.

4) ADL times should be during my Wednesday Night Weekly Stream 10pm to 1am =D

Any ways those are some preliminary thoughts, what do you all think?

Should it be required that all participants install hotslog?

Do we need to require X amount of unlocked heroes to participate?

One request: No ADLs on Sunday nights, most nerds are watching Game of Thrones. :-)

Guilty haha.

I don't know if I could ever participate in a 10 PM to 1 AM ADL using EST since I work 5.5 hours after it would end. That might be something to consider when choosing a time. God I'm getting old... that time frame used to be no problem haha.

I think it should be, just because anyone looking to take the game seriously would have it installed.  Its a small program, and it works automatically.

What about the stats like "Contributed XP"? Requiring people to install a 3rd party program may not be the best approach, and what problem would an MMR program solve? The only answer I can think of is that because the game is so new not many people will have a rank so that has to be taken into consideration when drafting your teams.

You know, I think that this game lends itself more towards building specific comps rather than basing picks on player ratings. Sure some skill is required, but personal skill will not carry a team in HotS. What if we did drafts by which heroes people play? Have players post their main heroes and let captains pick by the comp/s they want to run. Instead of having a personal rating for score keeping, lets have a Team Play Rating. It will give points for wins, xp soaked, siege, etc., rather than focusing on k/d/a. Higher Team Play Rating will show who can play well with others as a team, which is what this whole game is about. What do you guys think?

Is HOTS worth getting? Like what makes it different from other MMO's?

It's free to play dude. It's pretty fun, fast paced and objective oriented. Imagine if LoL launched a better version of Dominion where ppl cant carry on their own and it all depends on how well you play with others. You should check it out.

That sounds like a pretty major assumption. Until the game develops a bit I think it's too early to say whether individual skill plays a role in how well a team can perform. I mean obviously some kind of meta will develop (i.e. bruiser top, AP mid, adc and support bot, and a jungler) but in the early stages I don't think those things are going to be immediately obvious.

The meta is young right now, and also whats important to recognize is that the meta changes from map to map.

Haunted mines for example you need only 1 really good specialist to push a lane.

In dragon shire, 2 specialists could be used, to shove the top and bot lanes out to get easier access to the temple.

I think listing people by role, and having the captain decide what comp he/she wants would be the most effective.

You can't create personal advantages in HotS like you can on LoL. The only advantages you can create require the whole team to work together for objectives/map control. So playing as a team right from the get go is the whole point of this game. It's like I said, I'm not saying that there isn't any personal skill level involved in playing good, just that there's a lot more teamwork involved in order to be successful in this game.

Additional Edit: Firewater is right about the map differences.

Whats also important to recognize is that while its a team leveling game, if you shut down the players who are getting the most XP (i.e. laning against minions, take downs, merc camps) you can hinder your opponents overall level, which in terms can be a huge advantage.

Is this a strategy thread or a help needed to run an ADL? Think we are getting off track on what this post is for.

because i still don't have anyone committed to help full time on getting this up and running.

We were discussing how the point system/drafting could work, but I guess that can be done later >.>.....sadly, I cannot help full time :<
