PvE Tank build

Recommended Posts

Dont know if there is already a thread on this but I wanted to see peoples opinions on warrior tanking builds. This is what I am rolling right now when I have to tank dungeons http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cAhE.x0qz.EMMussiskrz.xV

Did anyone try main reaver builds, or main warlord builds? Or is it just nothing compared to pally?

For me Pally has been my best tank build. Ive been messing around with different builds, my current build is http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cEhA.xE00o.xxRzs0Vs0M Im only lvl 34, but Ive had zero issues with AOE tanking (I never use CC) or losing threat. This build is best catored to my playstyle, so it may not work for everyone.

In my humble opinion, tanking builds are going to be very individually based in this game according to one's playstyle. Im sure eventually there are going to be a "cookie cutter" template for Main Boss Tank, Main Off Tank, Main AoE Tank for raids. But you can do so much with diffent points and souls that there is still going to be enough points left over for an individual, playstyle build for everyone.

I have tried a similar Paladin / Reaver build last night in FC and KB. It works so well.

I modified it slightly and invest 26pts into Reaver for Cyclone Strike.

General rotation i used was AOE DOT. Shield Charge to the mage (if theres a range mob within the pact)

Drag everything together and use Cyclone Strike / Judgement. Re-DOT .. and you pretty much have aggro the full length.

For single target / boss fights.. I use shield throw to start, DOTS, start aggresive block early and go from there depending on the situation

This rotation will give you plenty of aggro, and an 'emergency' aggro pull with Concusion.

:yahoo_mini:

I Kinda stumbled on this build before doing much forum grinding as I was running Reaver/Riftblade before and Sylph wanted me to tank FC..

The Paladin setup does help alot with keeping the aggro

I tried Paladin / Voidknight as many suggested on the offical forum.. but I don't like the play style (too in love with reaver)

Please feel free to critque my rotation.. I am still learning how to tank !

Here is a couple of my tank specs. Your mileage may very.

Boss (Super Mitigation but lack of CD's)

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cAhg.xhqzhb0c.E0Rh00V.gc0Vf0M

This build mitigates a lot of damage but you don't get any fun CD's. On Magic Boss/trash this spec is op. On melee bosses its still my best spec but i have to spend my combo points on pact conversion most of the time. For trash in general though i like my warlord spec. This Spec requires you monitor your pact gain. I keep my stats window open and drug to the bottom of the screen so i can see my armor at all times.

The Ravenous Defense and Ravenous Strength in this spec basically reduces damage take by 10% and increase my block 10%. This ability scales really well with gear.

I will post my Macro's when i get home tonight.

Trash Pulls

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cAhE.xhqzhb0c.E0Rh00V.xE0M0x

I like the warlord for this. It's an AOE aggro super giant. My armor in this spec is about 1k more than the boss spec until Ravenous defense is built up. At that point the boss spec has about 3k-4k more.

This spec has an extra mob pull/taunt. Intercept which is a good safety net. This build also has about 500 more health as well.

The basics of these two specs are very similar. Pally is the heart of this both these specs. The macro's are almost the same and the hot bar doesn't change much. Please feel free to tear these builds up. I'm not set in my ways but this is what has been working for me. If you have some better info let me know.

This is a very in depth explanation of tanking everything by a greenscale RoS tank. I do not currently run his setup but i am looking into it. This may help out the guild tanks looking for some advice.
