  1. Team Captain Please Answer the Following: How long has this roster been playing together? 3/4 of our roster has been together numerous times since CoD4 and our current roster for a week. Where do the players live in relation to one another? We all live in NJ/NY What are your team’s accomplishments? With this exact roster? Links? This roster won the recent NJ Halo 4v4 this weekend without dropping a single map and 3/4 of the roster won 3 of the 4 MW3 NJ Halo tourneys. My personal achievements: http://gamebattles.m...nt/achievements 1st Place NJ Halo 4v4 November 2010 1st Place NJ Halo 2v2 November 2010 1st Place NJ Halo FFA December 2010 1st Place NJ Halo FFA July 2011 1st Place NJ Halo 2v2 July 2011 1st Place NJ Halo FFA August 2011 1st Place NJ Halo 2v2 August 2011 1st Place NJ Halo 4v4 August 2011 1st place NJ Halo FFA November 2011 1st Place NJ Halo 4v4 November 2011 1st Place NJ Halo FFA December 2011 1st Place NJ Halo 2v2 December 2011 1st Place NJ Halo 4v4 December 2011 1st Place NJ Halo FFA March 2012 1st Place NJ Halo 4v4 March 2012 MLG Dallas 2011 Bops 17th MLG Raleigh 2011 Bops 21st MLG Providence Bops 11th What are your team's latest tournament results? 1st Place NJ Halo 4v4 What is the team's next event online? LAN? Online-Frag Cup 3 LAN-NJ Halo April 2012 If you've been sponsored before, who was your best sponsor? Why? Yes by vVv Gaming at the beginning of Black Ops with Team Sick By Nature. vVv was my best sponsor because of the guidance really they gave me which helped me achieve pro status later on in my carrer. Why are you no longer with them? I left SbN due to them not getting PS3's and traveling to events. What was your worst sponsor? Why? MoB because they did nothing for me really. What do you hope to achieve with your team? A win at ever NJ Halo for MW3 and countless online wins as well. Who do you see as your toughest competition? Current top Call of Duty teams such as apeX, nV, and FaZe. What is your expected finish at your next event? 1st, that is the mentality I always have and always will have. What do you hope to get out of vVv Gaming? Money for NJ Halo entry fees and credits for gamebattles tournaments. Individually, all team members (Including the captain) must answer the following: How long have you been playing competitively? 4 years. If you are attending a LAN event, please detail your travel plans here (flight info, car info, train info, bus info, etc) To NJ Halo events I drive but I fly to any major event such as MLG unless it is close in which case I took a train to providence. How many hours during the week do you devote to gaming? How many of those hours are for the game for which you are applying? Around 40 or so and nearly all of which are on Call of Duty. Have you attended any national events? (MLG, CPL, WCG?) Yes, MLG, and WCG. Are you shy around people you don't know? No I will gladly talk to others especially if they approach me. Link us to some of your best personal achievements. Refer above in the captain section. What was your biggest loss or disappointment in gaming? Why did you lose that match? I have 2. Losing for top 16 at MLG Dallas in a series that we should have won. Stupid last minute mistakes in CTF cost us to lose the series 3-1. Another was losing my last open bracket match in Raleigh to get into pool play. We had to play Collapse who ended up getting 2nd that event but started in open bracket due to a last minute roster change. We lost CTF by 1 capture in a game in which I played my heart out and then another loss in domination by 5 pts. My team was a last minute pickup team before the event because I wanted to start playing seriously again after a 2 event break and our 4th we did not play with once before the event. How can you PERSONALLY benefit vVv Gaming? By promoting vVv to others on Twitter and helping build up the community by talking about vVv after high tournament placings and interviews. 2. For those of you interested in competitive Call of Duty and are on a team that is trying to get their team work down, here are some basic guidelines for what needs to be done in order to achieve success. This may sound reiterated if you've ever tried to compete on a 4 man roster: Communication would probably be the biggest thing to focus on only because of the significant of it. It could be that factor that makes or breaks a team in a match depending on how well the 4 members of the team can use Call outs effectively, have good awareness and say where enemies are, etc. Holding up your end of the team is a huge thing just basically for the concept of it. This is the most obvious one as it makes sense of what needs to be done. If you hold up your own, then it won't cause any flaws within your teams attitude for one another. Do your player roles, and listen to the captain of the team because it establishes a small chain of command and only on person calls the shots; this makes things organized and structured. What can be added on to your end, learn how to position yourself on maps as that will cause a lot of problems for your opponent and will start establishing map control for your team. Another thing to try to learn is team chemistry, it may be the hardest thing to establish due to the differences between the players that may be evident early on in the teams life span. Once chemistry is there, it's very difficult to go away, and you'll see professional teams like EnVyUs and team Obey have remarkable chemistry. Even if every member of the team had below average individual skill levels, if the chemistry and communication is there, it still does the job and can bring teams to the top. And lastly, establishing friendships outside of the game. Friendships always help with the way your team operates as it gives you time to understand your team mates better so you can know what they are thinking in game, as well as knowing what they are like at their bests and lowest times. Very important to know what to do when there is a problem in game and someone gets frustrated. These things will all help any team trying to achieve good team work all around. I hope I have opened some eyes to how teamwork is done properly. I look forward to seeing some new teams break into pro status next year, good luck! Make sure to follow me on twitter @@Slauney
  3. ****Warning! Long, detailed post. Here are the results from our eSports Survey (n=398). We will use these results to guide our strategy for 2012. The first two charts show that although most of the respondents own many gaming consoles, the two primary gaming platforms are the Xbox 360 and the PC (Chart 1 and Chart 2). Being the most accomplished console organization in the world, it is no surprise that the Xbox360 (41%) edges out the PC (36%) as the most used platform for gaming. Chart1 Chart2 When looking at the games actually played, we could see the console focus more as Call of Duty and Gears of War rose to the top of games played. On the PC side, it is important to note that League Of Legends was PLAYED more than Starcraft 2. Game Informer magazine visitors spend on average 18 hours playing video games. The majority of our community spends more than 24 hours a week playing video games, showing that as competitive gamers, we game more than the average. When we look at games being watched, we see that two very interesting trends: Starcraft is watched by nearly two-thirds of our community (60%), proving that more people WATCH SC2 than play SC2. Call of Duty is the most watched and the most played console game Three-fourths (77%) of our members watch at least 3 hours of streaming per week. On both the console and the PC platforms, many of our visitors and members purchased at least 15 games per year. When we asked respondents to tell us which games LACKED quality content, Call of Duty, Halo: Reach and Gears of War 3 all rose to the top. Although BF3 was in the mix, when we asked to narrow it down to ONE game that respondents most wanted to see quality content, it was Call of Duty (17%) and Gears of War 3 (15%) Overall, this indicates that console titles lack quality content. A majority of respondents said that they visit the vVv Gaming Website more than once per day, and over 82% visit our site at least once a week. As far as our website, there were little surprise when it came to the features that are most used, like our forums and shoutbox. The new website has increased the use of the home page, and we also see that the video feature is popular with over half of the respondents reporting they use this feature (52%). When we asked respondents to pick ONE feature, the forums came in a strong first, followed by the shoutbox and videos. There was little surprise on the features most used on our forum profiles with the "About Me" section coming out on top. Getting more sponsors and more ads (41%) edged out frequent donation drives (33%) as a primary way to increase revenue in 2012. 77% of our users are ages 18-29 and 94% are male. So, what does all this mean for 2012? I am happy to see that we are doing many things right. The one thing we need to do better is our investment in and content surrounding Call of Duty. Here is a preview of some of the things to expect in 2012: Sponsor a Call of Duty team Create content/media for Call of Duty Create content/media for Gears of War 3 Establish brand champions in all our divisions (SC2, LoL, CS, MMO, GoW , CoD, Halo, FIFA, Fighting) Add more partners Conduct two large donation drives Explore opportunities in Halo:Reach Explore opportunities in DotA 2 Explore opportunities in CS:GO Add Guild Wars Add Diablo 3 Continue Wednesday Night Starcraft, The Losers Bracket and Directional Influence Continue promote bloggers and create general gaming content Continue writing for Chicago Tribune Geek to Me Blog Continue League of Legends 1v1 tournaments I look forward to the hard work in 2012.
  4. As the donation drive comes to an end, I want to personally thank all of you for your participation. We had about 50 people contribute, which is roughly 30% of our community. I am proud to say that we met our goal of $4,500, and when our new website launches, you can thank the donors that made it happen. Our growth for 2011 is explosive. Our site gets nearly double the visits we got last year, and I expect this will only continue to grow. Of course, we want to further that growth by adding more reasons to visit the vVv Gaming website. To fully understand HOW MUCH we have going on, I wanted to break it down by division. I promise to keep it as short as possible, so forgive me if I leave anything out. Brawl vVv Gaming has officially partnered with Apex. Currently, we are sponsoring the The Road to Apex: ONLINE EDITION! We also have formalized our sponsorship deals for Apex 2012 and our sponsorship structure for 2012. Chibo continues to do a great job leading the division, and you can expect more from vVv in Brawl for 2012. Call of Duty With Modern Warfare 3 releasing on November 8, we will keep a close eye on what Major League Gaming (MLG) will do with the title. Meanwhile, we look forward to our Call of Duty 4 PC team coming to Chicago for the Ignite LAN from October 21-23. I look forward to meeting Cubed and the team in person. We do not expect to sponsor any CoD console teams for MLG for the rest of the year. Crossfire Our Crossfire team has been busy with it preps for WCG. We are waiting to hear when the WCG Nationals are for Canada. The WCG World Finals will be held in Busan, Korea from Dec 8-11. As always, vVv Lifeline is our one and only Crossfire team, and we fully support the relationship we have with them. Gears of War I can’t say enough how excited I am for this game. We will be launching our Gears academy, and I expect the competition for one of the spots to be fierce. This will be a chance for teams to train in a structured environment, as well as a chance for the top team to earn their team pass and hotel for the first MLG event. I am looking forward to experimenting with the maps and game types. Our official position is to remain silent on changing any settings until we first determine the best maps and game types to go with those maps. I encourage all of you to contribute your ideas to the best maps and gametypes HERE! Think about the SPECTATOR experience when you make your suggestions. Expect to see TNO at DEVASTATION. Also, expect vVv Gears players to attend the NJHalo/KotC event on the east coast. Both events are the weekend of October 8. vVv Gaming’s Gears team will be at the New York invitational event from October 21-23.. We wish our Gears players, Enmity, Monk, Leon and Myth the best of luck! Halo We will be supporting Believe the Hype for the rest of the season. Next season, we'll see what MLG does with Halo before making any other decisions about teams. BelievVve! League of Legends Our League of Legends (LoL) team continues to surprise people. Not only has the team surprised people, but I see many of our core members playing League of Legends. Expect our focus, coverage and content surrounding this awesome game to grow. I want to say so much of LoL, but for now, just know that we have been very impressed by the game, our players, Riot and the opportunities. JayC will be one busy manager in 2012! Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) and Guild Wars 2 (GW2) is where you will find us. SWTOR will start us off, and expect us to have a lot of fun. GW2 will be much more serious as we try and build a top roster for the game. Mortal Kombat vVv Reo will be at DEVASTATION, and he will be ready to compete! Expect to see other vVv MK players like vVv Krazie at the event, as well. Rhythm Our rock band is going to DEVASTATION, so expect vVv Adrenaline to entertain the fans at this event. After DEVASTATION, expect our rhythm gaming division to be fairly quiet until either a release of a new title or a new event stirs some excitement. Sports Michs09 is going to Korea to compete in IeSF World Championship event for the game Hyundai Veloster HD. He will be in Korea from October 6-10. He will be joining 400 players from 40 nations! Also, we are keeping our eye out for top players. We just added Jrock to our roster who is a top NHL player. Welcome him, and add him on PSN if you play: vVv Jrock Starcraft Hasuu, Murder, Ruff and Titan are all getting ready for MLG Orlando. Also, Doom, Titan, Spectral and I will be attending the KoDeF event in Korea from November 1-4. We have finally formalized our mandatory practice schedules and weekly meetings. Expect Roar to take a more active role, as well. Expect Noxie to come back soon. We also launch the Starcraft Academy this week, where the top player will be attending MLG Providence. Sugarbear will have the awesome responsibility to get this running, so I ask all Starcraft players to support the academy. Be available to assit and answer questions. There has been a lot of conversation about us picking up players, and it is true we spoke with dde, Faith and Vibe. In short, these players were asking for more than we could justify, and they all took other offers. We will be picking up players after MLG Orlando, so stay tuned, but our main focus will be our players who have been developing with us and are currently sponsored. OK. WOW! That was supposed to be a short synopsis of what we have going on, but as always, we do so much, you sometimes don’t see it all until you put it all down in one place. On the content side, we will be completely restructuring everything with the new website. I don't want to spoil any suprises, so I will just talk about what we have going on right now. The Loser’s Bracket will continue. Expect us to broaden our focus by inviting more guests from outside vVv Gaming to share their insight and perspectives. I promise that I will rant more. You keep asking for it, so I will deliver. Directional Influence will not. Also, with Rapture starting college, and no longer having a quality internet connection, we have stopped the Brawl podcast show for now. We are open to others who may want to pick up the slack, but for now, Directional influence is in hiatus. We just contributed our 100th article to Geek to Me. We will continue to deliver great content to this blog. We are ALWAYS LOOKING FOR WRITERS! So, if you can handle the deadline and write consistently, let us know! Wednesday Night Starcraft (WNS) is something that we are currently examing, and more will follow in a spate update. We will add a lot of content for 2012, as well as a few surprises that only Doomhammer and I know about. Expect us to continue to support the exact same mission statement: Again, I just wanted to thank those of you who donated, and give everyone an update on what we have going on. It is amazing when you put it all down in one spot. I promise that 2012 will only get better!

Gamers who frequent the online realms of their favorite games are usually very in-tune with the balancing between every weapon at their disposal, as are those who play fighting games and understand the balancing between each character in the roster. For gaming, weapon balance is key to making the community happy; no one is going to play a game in which someone can gain access to a shotgun that has a reload time of .3 seconds, a fire rate of an assault rifle, and damage output of a catapult using whales as projectiles. Every weapon must have pros and cons, and this applies to both campaign modes and multiplayer, as when there is less of a balance, the game itself suffers as a whole. For campaigns, weapon balancing is essentially for keeping a game challenging and, at the same time, worthwhile to play. In an obvious example, it makes no logical sense to give the player access to a weapon early in the game that allows them to kill every enemy they see with no effort. There has to be a scaling factor
