vVv Amateur Draft League Season 4 Changes

In 2015 we are refocusing on the core concepts of vVv Gaming and the Amateur Draft League (ADL). vVv Gaming is here to provide the best possible experiences for social, competitive gamers. During the last few seasons of the ADL there have been problems with toxicity, attendance, & the ranking system. The Amateur Draft League is meant to be a competitive ladder outside of the LoL ranking ladder where individuals can learn how to play as a team & improve their own gameplay at the same time. The changes below are meant to deal with those problems and refocus the ADL on it's core concepts.

Removal of Riot Prizing: Having Riot prizes be apart of the Amateur Draft League is an obvious draw and provides a lot of incentive to participate in the ADL. However, those prizes are currently part of the underlying problem with toxicity between the community and also provide a willingness to cheat the current systems in place to assure that one or more participants receive prizes. Also, according to the rules of obtaining Riot prizing vVv Staff members are prohibited from participating in the Amateur Draft League. Having Staff members have the ability to participate in the Amateur Draft League will make the event go much smoother when a sub is needed or only a few members are needed to create an extra set of teams. Overall, the cost of having Riot prizing does not meet or exceed the benefits of not having them. There will still be SteelSeries and other prizes / rewards at the end of the season but Triumphant Ryze & the previous amount of RP will not be provided. Prizes will be announced at a later time.

Changing the scoring system: A lot of problems with the Amateur Draft League stem from the current scoring system. With the current scoring system it is more advantageous to not participate in every night of the ADL because you have a better chance at losing points or gaining nothing than you do of gaining points. Also, while drafting for their teams captains were apprehensive about choosing the lower ranking participants or participants that were new to the event because there was too much risk involved with picking people you don't know can perform or that you don't know you like playing with.

Due to this we will be implementing an ELO scoring system. (Mock spreadsheet) Every participant will start out with 1200 ELO and will gain / lose more ELO depending on their teams and the opponents teams average ELO. We believe that this ranking system will remove the incentive to not participate in the event due to the amount of risk involved while participating with the former scoring system and will help solve some of the rampant toxicity / willingness to cheat the systems because the ranking system is more fair for everyone involved.

Changes to the Feedback system: One of the biggest draws of the Amateur Draft League for high ranking players and low ranking players alike is the Feedback system. Every competitive gamer should want to improve their gameplay everytime they are playing a game, however we do realize that the feedback system is more important for our lower ranking participants. During the last season a lot of participants showed an unwillingness to participate in the Feedback system even when other participants were asking for advice on their gameplay. The responsibility for providing feedback falls on our higher ranking participants and the Staff members to provoke thoughful and meaningful advice from the higher ranking members. During Season 4 of the Amateur Draft League we want to improve participation in the Feedback sessions by reminding all participants that it's everyone's responsibility to make this event as good as it can possibly be. If players continue to not participate in the Feedback sessions we may have to discipline them for unsportsmanlike conduct through ELO penalties, or in extreme cases temporary bans.

MVP Changes: The MVP system was the cause of a lot of controversy during the last season. People would throw votes or collude with other participants to not give certain members MVP because they were close to the top of the rankings regardless of if they deserved the MVP or not. Part of this problem stems from our old scoring system where MVP held weight in the overall scoring system instead of being in a separate category. We implement the MVP Appeal System during the course of the season but this was meant as a band-aid rather than an overall solution. Our new scoring system, The ELO scoring system, will still have MVP votes but they will be in a separate category and will NOT effect the overall scoring system. However, we don't want to take away from the prestige of being awarded MVP so there will still be the MVP All-Star game and we are currently planning other rewards for the participants who get the most MVP votes over the course of the season.

Going forward there will be more responsibility on the Staff members running the events. During the last few seasons of the Amateur Draft League the events were mostly run by "Event staff" and there was no accountability when problems arose and were not dealt with in a timely manner. Members help running the event could not effectively run the event because there was a disconnect between vVv Staff Members and the members who help organize the event. The Amateur Draft League and every participant is extremely important to vVv Gaming and we will make sure this event runs as smoothly as possible in the future. Thank you all for participating and I look forward to seeing you during the next season of the Amateur Draft League. We will be providing an opportunity for the community to discuss these changes this Thursday at the Town Hall Meeting.

I would have to say it's a tie for me between Death Note and Code Geass as my favorite anime.

C Wide got a reaction from Daviepants in I'm pleased to announce: The MVP Appeal System
I am very excited to announce the newest change to the vVv Amateur Draft League, The MVP Appeal System, which has been conceived because during this season and previous seasons it has come to light that ADL participants are intentionally throwing away their votes (i.e voting for Mickey Mouse instead of a president.) in an attempt to influence the ADL Rank Points standings, or simply to not vote for individuals they do not get along with regardless if they deserve the MVP vote or not. MVP voting is an important part of recognizing those who elevate the competitive level of the ADL and something that should be treated seriously rather than a way to game the system in one participant's favor. We are hoping that by implementing this system it will provide an overall better experience during the Amateur Draft League and it will allow participants who should have gotten the recognition as MVP and that extra point a chance to rectify the situation if they feel they have been cheated out of it unfairly.

The MVP Appeal System works by having 1 or more Platinum+ ADL Staff Members review the footage provided by the appealing participant. If it is determined that the appealing participant has a case, then on a first offense the participant/s who are found to be cheating the MVP system will be given a warning. On each subsequent offense, the participants who are found to be cheating the MVP system will be given a one-night suspension from participating in the ADL. This provides incentive for people not to attempt to cheat the MVP voting since they stand to lose more than they stand to gain by voting for someone who isn't an apparent MVP.

Likewise, if the case is found to be brought up frivolously and there is no case or only a specious case that MVP voting was being manipulated, then that player will lose one of his two appeal points for the season. If a player has no appeal points, then they will not be permitted to appeal in the case that an actual manipulation occurred. This provides incentive that players won't simply try to continuously charge people with MVP fraud in order to see what will stick and gain an advantage through the new system.

This system is still in it's infancy, so expect some changes to be made over time as we iron out the kinks. Please take the time to read the rules posted below. All participants are expected to know the rules before each ADL night.

    How to Submit an Appeal:

To submit an appeal you must send a Private Message to vVv SunDown, vVv Kotazu, or vVv C Wide. After verifying that the appeal and the provided VoD footage is acceptable they will then forward the appeal to the high ranking LoL members we have on staff, who are capable enough to determine who deserved MVP and if someone was attempting to influence the MVP system. After the footage is reviewed and a determination has been made you will be notified if the appeal was successful or not. The format listed below will serve as a guideline to submitting an appeal.

Hey there! My name is Keykat or Alexis and I will be helping you through the application process. If you have any questions, comments during the process don't hesitate to talk to me. To get a hold me you can pm me on the forums or talk to me on mumble. Mumble! I would highly suggest downloading mumble to get a feel of the community. This is where most of the community lives and odds are you can always find me in one of the channels. Mumble is extremely vital because it is where all of our Community Game Nights are held for LoL. I would also check the forums out and see if there is any event that you would be interested in. We have a ton of events going on and some new events that will be coming soon so stay active on the forums keeps you updated with all of that. http://www.vvv-gamin...r-draft-league/

If you haven't yet, I would highly recommend checking out the following links, these are what makes vVv the community it is:

    5 Pillars of vVv
How do I get into vVv
    What is a vVv Gamer
    Mumble Info

I highly encourage you to join our vVv chat in game, the name is simply "vVv" and click on the little cog in the right hand corner to select "autojoin on startup". This is a great way aside from Mumble to interact and play games with other community members.

Finally if something comes up during the application process where you need to take a hiatus or going on a vacation, know you only have to create a topic in our Vacation / Away forum. This way we can pick up right where you left off when you return!

Thank you for applying to vVv Gaming! The application process typically takes about 2-3 months, although this can be expedited through adding additional value or displaying an exceptional skill set either through gaming or otherwise. AKA posting on the forums or hanging out on mumble. The process is for you to get a feel of vVv and to see if you are truly interested in our awesome community.
I am looking forwards to seeing you interact with our community and getting to know you better! Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful applicant experience!

    Introduction:
With all the new participants in the Amateur Draft League (ADL) I thought it would be a good idea to put together a guide on how to ready yourself for the ADL, what to expect, & how to communicate efficiently with the community. If you have any questions, comments, or feedback for me or this thread then either private message me or post below. If you have any questions about the ADL then please contact one of the ADL staff members.

    Information to Review:
Please make sure to familiarize yourself with the following forum topics before participating in the Amateur Draft League. What is a vVv Gamer? Five Pillars of vVv Gaming. vVv Gaming FAQ. How to setup Mumble. ADL thread link. ADL  Scoring Spreadsheet

    What to expect:
After reading "How to setup Mumble" you should be connected to the vVv voice server, have your microphone & push-to-talk setup, & have disabled the in-game overlay if you choose to do so. Later on in this guide I will show you how to disable text-to-speech and the popup notifications. After connecting to the server either right click on your name & hit "Change Comment" (Shown below) or click on the icon that looks like a yellow sticky note at the top of your Mumble client. Enter your Summoner name, SoloQ rank, & preferred roles (Shown below). Now you have 1 last thing to do before you are ready to participate in the Amateur Draft League! It is necessary that you join the "vVv ADL" chat room and recommended that you join the "vVv" chat room in the LoL client (Shown below). This is so the team captains can easily locate you in game and invite you to the game. At this point you should be ready to participate in the vVv Amateur Draft League. Everyone will usually be hanging out in the "Draft League" channel (Shown below) prior to the ADL starting. Right click on the channel name & hit "Join Channel" (Shown below) or simply double click on the channel name to move yourself. Please say hello, introduce yourself, & converse with the community until it is time for the ADL to start.

When it's time to start the ADL SunDown (Current LoL Division Leader & VP of Operations) will start his speech. After his speech concludes he will instruct you to move to the "Sorting Hat" channel corresponding to your SoloQ rank (So as a Gold player I would go into the "Gold" channel.) Hang out and chat with your fellow participants until you are picked up to play on a team. At this time captains are being choosen as described in ADL thread. Once all the teams are full an ADL staff member will inform your team of which teams you will be playing against. There are 2 games per night; you lose 1 point for a loss and gain 1 point for a victory. You can gain an additional point for being voted MVP. As you know, or should know, these points are tallied (Spreadsheet link) and prizes are given away at the end of the current ADL season.

After each game ends have your team captain get in contact with an ADL staff member and notify them that the game is over. The WINNING team should join the LOSING teams channel. After doing this please wait patiently for an ADL staff member to arrive as they make be taking care of another game that finished previous to yours. When the ADL staff member arrives they will introduce themselves (Don't yell at me Kotazu) and ask which side won the game. After recording who won the staff member will ask for MVP votes for the winning team. Right click on the ADL staff members name and click "Send Message". Please include the users name in Mumble or the champion that user played in your comment. (Shown below) After recording and announcing the MVP the staff members will do the same for the losing team and then will get the feedback rolling. Feedback helps all players improve so please participate in the feedback process. The ADL staff member will sometimes leave before the feedback process is complete if it is a busy night; please make sure to continue the feedback process before continuing on to the next game.

After completing both games and the post-game processes you have successfully competed in the vVv Amateur Draft League! Coming back each night and trying your hardest is the best way to earn those sweet prizes at the end of the season! After the games conclude the people that are still left over will sometimes play some pickup games so stick around and chat with the community!
