We have moved to Discord   08/04/2016

There has been a strong desire among the community to migrate to Discord for quite some time. As of today, our community will be using Discord and as a result, we will no longer be actively using our TeamSpeak Server.  The TeamSpeak server will temporarily stay active to help inform all of our move to Discord. Within the next couple of months, it will be shut down completely.  For a quick invite to our new Discord server, you can click here.

New Supersonic Series Start Time   10/17/2016

We would like to thank everyone who participated in our recent survey regarding the start time of our tournaments.  After reviewing responses from the survey sent out to tournament participants we have decided to make changes to the start time of our events to try to better accommodate everyone.  Beginning on Monday, October 24th, all of our tournaments will start an hour earlier - at 8PM Eastern.  This means that registration will close at 7:30 EST, and that check-in starts at 7:30 EST and closes at 7:45 EST.

Shame they are keeping the distribution the same.  With that much money they could pay a living wage to every team that qualified and have enough left over for the top 8 to make a decent purse.

i like that they keep it the same. I don't want teams staying together just to get a TI invite to get some money

How is it really a shame though?  It should be distributed based on merit as opposed to just showing up.  Yea it would help out the teams and individuals quite a bit, but give them all serious motivation to keep trying to progress, not just, oh we're starting in losers bracket after group stage but at least we still get a hefty purse of money regardless...  Little Billy shouldn't just get a medal for participation when he comes in dead last.  That's my opinion on the matter at least.

Qualifying for the World Championship isn't merit?

Esports is the only professional sport where getting payed depends on winning and being top 8.  Any other sport, you get payed some kind of living wage.  If we want esports to grow then we need to make sure the people who are making the sacrifice to try and go professional are having their basic needs met.  Especially when it's 10 million freaking dollars.

I completely agree, if we truly want this to become something that is viable as a job like any other sport we need to make sure our players can live off of what they make.

Doesn't every team invited, including the wild card teams, get a full ride to TI4 for all 4 days?

I do think that every team that makes it should receive a decent sum of money, I mean they did make it to TI after all. But at the same time, the top 8 spots are where the money needs to be. Have to keep teams striving for the big numbers. The difference between esports and every other conventional sport, is there is no off season, tournaments are going on left and right. There is always money to be made throughout the year, not just at TI.

Every team go to TI4 should be making a livable wage(maybe not fantastic) as they all receive salaries from their organizations.

I agree with stab and hotaruz, they are all being sponsored to exist and play video games, if you want to make prize money then you have to be the best (or at least closer to it). Broadening the prize payouts just means the best make less, that's mildly disheartening

I agree.  It's great to see the support, but this is a lost opportunity. $5m easily would be a great prize pool and the other $5m could be invested into a sustained league, ensuring top players can earn a living from playing the sport. Instead, this is opportunity is reduced to a marketing tag line, "we have the biggest prize pool."

It would be great if Valve actually invested in eSports.

Realize also that when sports like football and baseball first started, they weren't in much different shoes. Lots of players when those sports first started being played "professionally" had to have a second job because they made little to nothing from their sport. eSports is still very new, and most players at that level are being sponsored already so they can play constantly. It may not be what you consider a "wage", but if someone came to my door and said they'd pay for me to have my own place to live and eat as long as I use their gear and play well, I'd quit my job in a second. There is still plenty of time for a playing circuit to be made, no one really expected this kind of prize pool. If this kind of thing continues, and eSports stay popular, I'm sure that things will change. Why wouldn't they? Plenty of money to be made from the first person to make a major gaming circuit that everyone shoots for.
