Supersonic Series Stacks Up to Support the Troops   11/07/2016

vVv Gaming Joins Forces With Stack-Up To Support The Troops     We believe that all gamers, regardless of skill, have a place in competitive gaming. We also believe that great things can come from competitive gaming and the communities that support it. As such, starting today, we are joining forces with Stack-Up in their missions and dedicating the Supersonic Series to the troops. Our goal is to help Stack-Up raise money to fund their missions. Each dollar that is donated goes directly to Stack-Up to support their cause. We invite you to join us in our mission by watching our stream, playing in our tournaments, and donating towards a greater cause: supporting the troops through gaming.
Stack-Up's Mission   "Founded in 2015, Stack-Up (TAX ID: 47-5424265) brings both veterans and civilian supporters together through a shared love of video gaming. With the motto: 'Veterans are our Mission. Gaming is our Passion', Stack-Up serves US, NATO and ANZAC veterans through three primary programs: The Stacks, Stack-Up Supply Crates, and Air Assaults." With one of their programs, Stack-Up assembles "Supply Crates" filled with video games and nerdy goodies which are sent out to veterans in combat zones, on humanitarian missions, in recovery hospitals, and sometimes even bases located stateside.  They strive to help improve experiences of service members while they are deployed; instead of focusing on how many days of deployment they have left, Stack-Up encourages them to be participating in video game activities with their battle buddies.  It isn't just about having fun either!  Scientific studies have shown that video gaming can help veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, stress, and even pain relief!

  1. Gaming - :D

Have you ever had met a person in life who shared all of your interests? Thought the way you do? The Moriarty to your Sherlock - Sometimes the other way around? Well, my brother, Chris, was and is that to me. There is nothing in this world that gets my blood flowing like the thrill of a challenge, a competition, or pursuit of perfection. The earliest memory I have is playing Mortal Kombat Ultimate. My brother was a beast at Nightwolf and Sindel. God, I couldn't stand that fucker and his axe combo; if you know the game, it started with a low kick... followed by an annihilation of your manhood (insert rage). Anyways, we'd play the game with large health pools so that the matches lasted for 7-10 minutes. We figured this would balance out the flukes and allow the better player to always win. It was always him. I would practice hours upon hours, character after character, just to find a way to beat his Nightwolf. I would go so far as to play into the AM's while everyone was asleep on a school night. Finally, a miracle happened. Jesus took the wheel, or in this case, control of the controller leading me to accidentally pick Noob Sabot in the select screen. Well, it turns out the timing of Sabots combos completely and utterly destroy Nightwolf. I ended up figuring out something called an "infinite combo" in the fighter genre, like Marvel vs Capcom. I was unbeatable. This led to my brother demanding the hero be banned from play, lol. Fast forward a few years, and the best game of all time had been created; Starcraft: Brood War. Our second greatest rivalry. I can still remember the day my brother came home with a disc of this game. For all you youngins out there, we had to have cd-rom discs of the game to play it. This is back when windows 95 was the most up to date operating system. Anyways, our buddy Jeremy from down the street was all about this game. We installed, opened the game, picked protoss, and entered a world that would define our childhood. Even to this day, I find myself searching youtube for the game's music, old tournaments, and everything GomTV. The game was flawless. Alright, enough gushing about Starcraft, down to the nitty gritty. Like all games, top tier players separate themselves from the community and create their own secret hideout. In Starcraft, this was Clan x17. To put this place in perspective; think of the biggest crush you've ever had. Now imagine her surrounded by a multitude of bouncers, and around these bouncers are other nerds ust like yourself. Just like the world of dating, clan x17 is the girl you want to bang, and the amount of horny teenagers trying to get in her circle represents the starcraft community. This is where my brother played. Having only 1 computer growing up, I spent a great deal of time watching my brother in a chair right beside him, learning from his every move. There was this one game I remember vividly, the game he played against Testie. This guy was one of the top terran players in North America at the time, a man ahead of his time in terms of skill. Testie decided to do a tank push/contain on my brother's protoss base very early in the game. However, my brother had created a build rushing zealot speed and shuttles in order to drop on top of the tanks, nullifying the terran advantage. The game was a 30 minute slugfest of epic proportion. The result: my brother was victorious. Throughout the next few years, he would play against the top canadian protoss Smuft- from time to time, as well as many other Clan x17 members. I’m not sure of all the opponents anymore, but I am certain he had to of run into Artosis, Tasteless and Day9 at one point or another. As for myself, I played in x17 as well. My defining moment came before my brother’s success in the game. One late night, my brother went over to our friend’s house in order to play me 1v1 online. We played for hours upon hours into the AM’s, digging deeper into competitive nature with each passing game. And so the moment came where I defeated him in 3 straight games, convincingly. My brother didn’t even type a word as his connection disappeared from the LAN screen. I was beside myself because I had never truly beaten him on even terms before. But… he crushed me in a harmful way. The following day he told me this, “I was just playing around you know? I’m still better than you.” As a young, 12 year old boy, I accepted my older brother’s statement and quit Starcraft for good. There are times in my gaming career where I wonder, "what might have been if I had done 'x'?" Well, this is one of them.
  2. Umm... I can't think of anything specifically. I know LotV will come out soon, so if you need someone to help with that I can. I've also read a few forum posts about the current direction of vVv gaming leaning towards the PC side. Do you need anyone to help in any of those areas? I'm highly unaware of the overall state and vision for vVv, but am more than willing to learn and help doing anything that needs to be done.
  3. Yup, it's THE Titan (the one who makes moaning sounds. Ya know, That Guy) So yeah, I have no idea what I want to do. Is there anything you guys are in need of being done? Maybe Sugarbear (organic? what is THAT?) can take me under his gentle and soft wings. Either way, you've got me at your disposal.
  4. About me: I used to be a player for vVv long ago, well, I guess 3-4 years isn't that long. Anyways, I'm on my final year at the University of North Florida as a music education major. When I complete my degree, I intend to teach band at the high school level, which will allow me to create new "this one time at band camp" stories. Outside of music, I've always had a passion for gaming stemming back to playing Mortal Kombat on my SNES, or Starcraft I on my WIN95 computer. Gaming is just something I love and can never bury away within myself. Even to this day, I find myself logging into Civ4 to play on diety with my brother. What is even more, is that I find myself in the practice room thinking of all the great friendships I've made through the game, and the various regrets I have with how I handled my time. That's enough about me. I feel old because of all the memories I have, but it is just the beginning. Upload a personal picture of yourself. If you don't have a picture, please upload one before applying. (please save nudes for private channels): I don't have any pictures, lol. I made a selfie (don't judge) What would you like us to call you? Tristan What is your level (Age)? 28 Where ya from? Born: Portsmouth, Virginia (Navy Brat) -- Jacksonville, FL - Now What games do you currently play? World or Warcraft (sorta) / Civiliation4 What games are you looking forward to playing? I was looking forward to Legacy of the Void, but I dislike the direction of the game. I'll probably still pick it up and get grandmaster for the hell of it. Overwatch looks amazing. How did you hear about vVv Gaming? If it was by time travel device, please indicate the serial number. If by wizard, please indicate who. Wizard: "You're a Wizard Harry!" Who do you currently know in vVv Gaming? How do you know them? Do you wish you didn't know them? I know a couple people, lol. What are your hobbies and interests outside of gaming? Wait, what's "outside of gaming"? Ultimate Frisbee, Trumpet, Music, Manga/Manhwa (Tower of God is the Sh*t), Conducting, Teaching, Redheads Do you have problems with toxicity or toxic behavior in game? If so, what have you done to reform this behavior? Would you like us to set you up with a "correctional administrator" (please submit $15 torture device maintenance fee)? I could be in denial, but I don't know if I've been completely toxic. I know in DOTA I've been a horrible person, but that game changes people man. Aite fine, I'm toxic from time to time. But you know what? If I present an idea which I perceive to be true, I will not back down from my belief until convinced otherwise. I think I'm more confident (egotistic) than toxic. When you play games, do you tend to grind games as much as possible, or do you often reflect on your mistakes and actively seek to improve upon them? Having played at a high level before, I believe there needs to be a balance between both of these styles of learning. I used to find myself on the tedious and reflective side. However, I didn't mass enough games and learn the different strategies and build orders that were currently present on the Ladder. In the end, I would become sloppy whenever faced with a foreign strategy. So, my belief is that there is a time for both sides of the spectrum to outweigh the other. Finding the balance is the hardest part about fulfilling one's potential. Have you ever competed in or attended any online or LAN tournaments? National events? (PAX, LCS, IEM, etc.)? Stripper competitions? All the above. The stripper competition didn't end how I had hoped... turns out I'm pretty average... and slightly above in other areas. What type of organization are you looking to join? What would the ideal environment look like for you? Would it have complementary pudding cups? Here is the bottom line. I have the utmost respect for Jerry and everyone in this organization. All I want to do is give back to the organization which helped me a great deal earlier in my life. Whatever you need from me, I will do my best to help in any way I can. What I'd personally like to be is a resource for those who are giving it a go at the competitive gaming thing. I don't know everything, but I would like to share the knowledge of things I have learned through the many years I played in the competitive scene. I would hope that perhaps it may be of some help to those within the community. IQ Test Portion. Please complete the following sequences: E Pluribus Unum, shakeweight, candyland, /r/ttotm 1, 3, 69, 69, 69, Is it in yet? Kevin Bacon, Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Lucille Ball, Ricky Ricardo I, Fucked, Your, Nan Where is the preview button? I have no idea if this pink thing is going to work, lol.
