Ceberus remote access exploit Severity: CRITICAL Ceberus, the popular anti-theft app on Android is vulnerable to remote disclosure of account credentials allowing attackers complete control of your phone. Uninstall Cerberus immediately. http://www.ifc0nfig.com/cerberus-exploit-accessing-any-device/
  4. Favorite BEER?

Should I care? If someone's favorite beer is commonly found in solo cups on college campuses or the 'official' beer of NASCAR than they dont know beer. Period. I dont know any microbreweries who strive to mirror a watery lager. Please dont confuse my response with giving a fuck what you think *cough* I mean drink. Nice douchey comment yourself. Cheers.
  5. Favorite BEER?

Wow there's a lot of piss drinkers in this thread. I hate to break it to you but Coors/Bud/Miller are not real beers. Order one of those at Oktoberfest and you'll get laughed out of Germany.
  6. A New Compact PC things keep getting smaller and smaller...

The Raspberry Pi can stream HD video. Quite a cool little device. I have one at home running debian that I use to host a git repo. Not technically a PC in the sense that it cant run Windows applications but still very cool (and only $35).
  7. What college do you go to and major are you studying?

To anyone in computer engineering or computer science, feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the majors, courses, specific technical issues, or what software development in industry is like. BS CmpE @ Purdue
  8. I wouldnt put too much faith in a random chinese forum. It would surprise me for the next gen to have an 8 core though. Perhaps 4 core hyperthreaded, but parallelized work is hard enough to find for a single game. The major benefit would be in AI processing capabilities but it still would seem more of a marketing move to me. I would be cautious to hold my breath for a new xbox at all though. Xbox is less than 10% of Microsoft's total revenue (~9%), and reported a $229M operating loss in 2011 and 2012 is not likely to be much better. With the apparent flop of Windows 8, Microsoft could be in for some significant restructuring as they try to stay relevant.
  9. Keeping yourself safe online.

Java remote code execution vulnerability Sev: SEVERE Platform: Windows, OSX, Linux A vulnerability in the java jdk is being actively exploited in the w wild. The level of exploitation occurring appears to be very severe. The DoHS has issued an advisory recommending the uninstallation of Java until Oracle can release a patch. Apple has already released an update that disables java on OSX 10.6+ http://www.zdnet.com/homeland-security-warns-to-disable-java-amid-zero-day-flaw-7000009713/ http://thenextweb.com/apple/2013/01/11/apple-takes-no-prisoners-immediately-blocks-java-7-on-os-x-10-6-and-up-to-protect-mac-users/ This isn't one to ignore.
  10. Tablets? Which would you buy?

The 16 GB Nexus 7 has been dropped to $200 and the 8 GB version discontinued. Also there is now a 32GB WiFi model and HP+ that can be attached to an AT&T plan. Additionally the Nexus 10 was released yesterday starting at $399 for the 16GB model. https://play.google.com/store/devices
  11. Halo 4 cost Romney the Election...

LOL yea because college students are Romney's key demographic.
  12. Is 16gb of RAM overkill?

Its really going to be overkill for a vast majority of users but it really depends on what you use your PC for. For a gaming PC, 8GB is more than enough and you'll be fine with even 4GB, all assuming a 64bit OS. Video RAM capacity is more important for gaming.
  13. Welfare and Drug-Testing

I get the feeling that you are trying to make a point with the statistics you provided so rather than speculate, perhaps you should just state what conclusion you think we should draw from that. Additionally here are some statistics, whose conclusions I will, for parity, leave for you to make. http://nlihc.org/sites/default/files/oor/2012-OOR-Min-Wage-Map.pdf http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/12poverty.shtml#thresholds http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/30/paying-rent-on-minimum-wage/
  14. Myers-Briggs Personality Test. What type are you?

You have an interesting definition of personality if its something you expect to change from day to day. Consider two things: 1. This particular personality test assumes personality is a relatively unchanging trait. That is the basis of the test. 2. What good is a personality test if personality is widely variable in short timespans?
  15. Updating my 09' Build PC- Opinions

This is incorrect. Yes each DIMM is 64 bits wide but the memory bandwidth to the memory controller is described in channels. Each channel can communicate data to the controller at the same time. The number of channels on a mobo differ but Nowater's mobo is dual channel with a very important note of: This means that it is certainly in Nowater's best interest to get only 2 DIMMs whether thats 2x8GB or 2x4GB thats up to him (installation is important here, which slots you use matters). Even if the above limitation on the memory clock was not the case, there would be no bandwidth increase from using 3 or 4 DIMMs and for that extra nothing you are going to generate more heat, likely reduce overclock capabilities, and are more likely to encounter a memory failure down the road.
