7/30/10
Saturday 10:30am – Competition Day!!
Everyone gathered for lunch together and then we were brought to a giant stage maybe 60-70feet tall where all the matches would take place…. The competition started around 1:30pm – This is where everything gets quite out of hand… In the third match they are unable to get the competitors gamepad to work (wired xbox controller), so the organizers announce that anyone with an xbox pad + their opponents will not be playing on stage unless making the round of 4 (They will move computers from cafes to accommodate the players)… Three of us were using an xbox controller, making 6 total players forced to play in a gaming café while the other matches took place on stage. This decision ruined the entire competition, why fly countless miles to play in a small gaming café/ lan center? (One of the competitors using an xbox gamepad, was the Korean who won the past IeSF Global Event “FIFA Online” so obviously this wasn’t an issue before)
Opponent: Mario (Austria) – Huge notoriety was a member of SK gaming for a couple years, possibly one of the most well known players ever in the FIFA community – Link http://www.esport.de...7mario%27_Viska
Loss 1- 2 (15-5 in shots for my favor, but it was a close match and unfortunately my lack of knowledge of the title really showed in “finishing”)
(Bracket Change??)
They changed the entire brackets after moving players into the gaming café, so why did we even draw randomly it made no difference. I’ve never been to an event where after the tournament started brackets were then altered and opponents changed.
So after one match my tournament was over and they escorted me back to the grand final stage where dinner was served…. The final 4 players competed on stage in front of a crowd of maybe four to five thousand spectators (Hyundai filmed the matches for TV with entertainment in between games – concerts from national celebrities etc…) Everything came to a close around 10:30pm where we then took the bus to a “meet & greet” with Neobiz (creators of FIFA Online 2) where we gave input/opinions on their title. So far in Korea I had spent minimal time around the city/ nightlife so a few of us decided to take matters into our own hands and leave the restaurant a little early (12pm)… Once back at the hotel we showered and prepared for a night out in Busan!!
Party Time!! 12:40am
Grabbed a few drinks at the bar, put our moves on the Korean women and headed straight to the party at one of their more well known clubs… It was trance night which included 500 – 600 Koreans packed into a small location with loud music, bright lights, and quite a show on stage. After a few hours of in your face dancing and music we decided to try our luck picking up some women on the nearby beach. (4am) Throughout the night we had been getting a lot of attention but walking along the coastline there was no doubt we were a hot commodity. So I picked out a couple winners and took them to a nearby bar for some drinks and so we could get comfortable lol… Finally I was fortunate enough to bring a nice young lady back the hotel for some intense conversation.
Sunday 8:00am
Well I never went to sleep the night before, but it was time to get on the bus and head back towards Seoul because some of the competitors had their flight Sunday night. So the next 10-12 hours included lunch/dinner and a lot of sleeping – We didn’t arrive at the hotel till around 10pm and then I passed out watching TV not long after.
Monday – Time for a Flight 11:00am
Korea was such an amazing opportunity, but the way the tournament was handled plus the mistakes in organization really changed a once in a lifetime trip into a disappointing visit where I spent more time traveling then actually seeing the city. I’m not being ungrateful but having all my days in a foreign country scheduled for me wasn’t what I expected.
Well now that I’m back in the “States” it’s time to focus and start practicing for WCG Pan American taking place in Brazil on August 26th-28th…. Thanks vVv & Sponsors, WOGL, Hyundai, and of course the GREATEST Gaming Community in the World!!
