Changes to the Application Process   08/03/2016

Hello Everyone!   I'm creating this announcement to inform every vVv applicant that I have introduced a few short-term goals that we all will be working toward accomplishing over the next few weeks. One of these goals directly affects your application process.  If you would like to read the full post in detail, and maybe learn a little about me, follow this link. The TL;DR of why I'm addressing this announcement to you is to inform you that our application process will be undergoing a few dramatic changes that will affect your application. vVv Gaming wants to be as transparent as possible when it comes to what changes our Staff team makes and why. We will be changing the applications themselves as well as how they work. Our community wants and needs a larger say in who is accepted and who isn't. We also want to encourage community interaction as much as possible. With these changes, we are wanting to allow members the ability to give constructive criticism to applicants, provide the opportunity for applicants to interact with members and other applicants that they normally may not, and open a platform for discussion and the sharing of ideas. With the reimplementation of the Endorsement System, vVv Gaming is looking to give the power back to our Members and put the fate of the Applicant (and their application!) in their own hands. Applicants will need to receive 5 endorsements from current vVv Members (Staff endorsements work as well!) to earn their pre-interview. If an Applicant fails to receive a new endorsement every 3 weeks the application will be closed. Full details on how the Endorsement System works can be found through this link. Because we are introducing new application forms and a different way of how the application process works, we will be closing all currently open applications. Once the new application forms are posted, all applicants that had an application open during this time will be able to immediately reopen their applications. This means that those applicants do not need to wait 30 days as the new rule states, this will be a one-time exception due to circumstances under which these applications were closed. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a private message. I apologize for the inconvenience that this will cause. Thank you for your patience and your enthusiasm for joining vVv Gaming!

We have moved to Discord   08/04/2016

There has been a strong desire among the community to migrate to Discord for quite some time. As of today, our community will be using Discord and as a result, we will no longer be actively using our TeamSpeak Server.  The TeamSpeak server will temporarily stay active to help inform all of our move to Discord. Within the next couple of months, it will be shut down completely.  For a quick invite to our new Discord server, you can click here.

vVv Gaming Presents: ADL Season 10!   08/12/2016

TL;DR: Season 10 of the vVv Gaming LoL ADL begins Friday, August 19th @9pm EST/6pm PST! Discord Info              Just be on Discord at the check in time and have a level 30 with at least 16 champions to participate! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ vVv Gaming has had a long history in competitive e-sports; and, while the LCS may be a long way off for the organization, we can still participate in semi-competitive LoL activities as a community. The ADL has, and will continue to be, our main way to achieve this. However, let’s be honest, the ADL has had a rough time over the past few seasons. This comes from both participant enjoyment, as well as coordination and structuring of the event as a whole. While I do not plan on completely fixing the system from the start, I do believe that there are some short (and long) term changes that can make the experience better for everyone: ·         We are keeping participation points for this season, as well as the Elo ranking system used for previous seasons. ·         We will have people recruiting more in the game from the community, and attempt to bring more LoL community members to the discord that we feel would be good for the vVv community. ·         We will be implementing new rules for the drafting phase. Some of these rules will be introduced as the season progresses and are covered below. ·         Unfortunately, at this point in time, there is no information regarding a prize. If a viable prize method/opportunity comes about in the future, current season winners will be rewarded retroactively. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rules and Details (Read if new):          Nights will consist of two matches per night. You must be able to attend both games (Don’t be that guy, play it out).          Be on Discord NO LATER than 8:55pm EST/5:55pm PST for Check In. This will be slowly changed to 8:45pm EST as the season progresses. We want the drafting phase this season to be as smooth as possible.  We want to give people time to announce their roles before hand.           Check in will happen in the ADL Check In Discord Channel BEFORE players move to the regular ADL channel, and at 9:00pm EST people will move to channels matching their Dynamic Queue rank. Missing the check-in deadline means that you will not be able to participate that night and will not receive a participation point.          During the Check In, participants will announce their top 3 preferred roles for a staff member to place in a spreadsheet (Discord does not allow for your descriptions to be changed, that I am aware of).          Have a level 30 account, at least 16 champions, and be ready to have some fun!          Additional Questions? Contact vVv Eternal or vVv Yui        The ADL will last for 10 weeks this season, there will then be a three-week break before the next season starts (Currently scheduled for Nov. 11, 2016).        Cheating or Smurfing in the ADL is not permitted. Anyone caught doing either of these this will be suspended from the ADL, no exceptions. Cheating will result in a permanent suspension, smurfing will result in a 5-week suspension.  New Drafting Process: So, in previous seasons of the ADL, the highest ranked players were given the priority in being team captains for any given night. While this was not a bad system, it did leave some players feeling left out over the course of the season. That being said: ·         Highest ranked players will no longer be automatically chosen as the team captain. ·         Team captains will be chosen by the number of participation points that a player has (you earn 1 point for each night you attend, REGARDLESS of whether or not you are picked). ·         No player can be captain more than once every 4 weeks (depending on overall participation). ·         The first weekend will have captains from an arbitrary division and lower. So here is my logic (bear with me). With some outlying cases, most of the team captains would pick from highest available skill in a role down, until all of the top players (and a few peoples friends) were picked. I don’t expect this to change at all; however, this allows for both new and lower skill level players and community members, as well as frequent participants, to always have a shot at playing. They also get the benefit of knowing (eventually) in advance that they will be captains. Additional Information: I would like to try and address the speed of the drafting process. For now, the primary way of doing this will be the check-in time; however, if another feasible method is suggested, any changes will be updated in this section. After the Games: ·         Players will join the winning team's discord channel, and all players will be given feedback if they desire it. ·         Players may also provide criticism and suggestions for the ADL. (We are still seeking to improve the event if the community desires it) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More Darn Rules ·         Teams will still be matched by alphabetical order of Discord channel for the time being. ·         The winner of the first match will play the winner of the second (both matches are played out simultaneously), and the same goes for the losing teams. ·         The higher team alphabetically will be chosen to be on the blue side for the first game, and the lower team will get blue side when the second game is played. Leaving/AFK: If someone leaves a game for any reason and does not reconnect, they will be given a 2-night suspension from the ADL. The player may appeal the suspension with an ADL Staff member if there was a legitimate reason for the disconnect. However, all appeals must happen at least 24 hours before the next ADL event. You also may only appeal a disconnect once per season. Pausing: Players may pause the game for UP TO 10 minutes if a player on their team is having connection issues. PLAYERS MUST INFORM AN ADL STAFF MEMBER IF A GAME IS PAUSED. If the reason cannot be resolved in 10 minutes, the team whose player disconnected will concede the match. If the enemy team agrees, they may also use their 10-minute pause to give the other team more time. Teams only get two pauses per game. Replacement Players: Player replacement will be handled the same as in previous seasons. A player may be replaced by another player of the same rank or lower, provided both teams agree to the replacement. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So that’s it folks.  Thank you for sticking through the whole announcement, we understand it is somewhat lengthy, however the information had to be provided.  You are now ready for the 10th season of the ADL! If you have any questions feel free to contact vVv Eternal     See you on Friday, August 19th at 8:55pm EST/6:00pm PST!     ADL Staff: vVv Eternal   To join the discussion click here!

      August Chopping List   08/20/2016

As I have stated when I became the president, I will be removing all inactive members from vVv Gaming.  I have given everyone 3 weeks to reach out to me and get in touch with me.  Some have reached out and decided not to vVv members anymore, due to time constraints and other reason.s  Some reached out and promised they would take certain action to show they want to be members but it did not happen, and lastly, some have never reached out to me at all.  I really wish that things could be different, but as it stands the following people are being removed from vVv Gaming.  We wish them the best of luck with their future endeavours and hope to see them come back to us one day.   The following is a list of donor members who will be returned to Donor rank on the forum, but will no longer be vVv Members. vVv Brocco vVv Koala vVv Krewel vVv Rising Dawn   The following is a list of vVv Members being returned to normal forum rank. vVv Acai28 vVv AmpeD vVv Arkaine vVv Blazek vVv Buzz vVv Cherp vVv Cr0nus vVv Deadaim vVv Falcodile vVv Matchu vVv Oriklad vVv ShySluShy vVv SilverSpoon vVv Spike vVv TyTy vVv UkogMonkey vVv Zeeb

The Way I See It: TERA Online Beta

Overview:

TERA: The Exiled Realm of Arborea, is a Korean developed Action-MMO, originally released in January of 2011. En Masse Studios picked up publishing rights for a North American Release;,now slated for May 1st 2012. While the game went through quite a few troubles upon release, along with legal issues, the game has finally made it into its first beta stage which was opened February 17th till the 19th. Currently En Masse plans on 4 more beta test weekends over the next few months, along with an open beta in early April and finally a head start event for pre-orders April 28th. After almost two years of waiting for some good news, I finally got a chance to take a look at TERA: The Exiled Realm of Arborea.

The World:

The World itself feels quite massive, especially when you get past the Isle of Dawn. Unfortunately the game starts very linear, with only 1 starting zone, and really doesn’t open up until almost level 20. However at this point the game starts giving you story quests in multiple zones, allowing you to make choices where to level and quest. The down side? Well you will need to get back and finish those story quests, so they are still fairly mandatory to go to each zone.

The UI:

As you may have noticed, TERA does not have a very standard UI system… in fact you will not see a mouse on your screen a large majority of the time. This is due in part to the way combat works (which I will describe in detail later on). You may also notice the shortness of the hotbar, and the inclusion of tab, left click and right click. The game allows you to use these buttons as hotkeys and change them as needed. The last major difference is the mini map system. In the upper right you have a radar, which shows npcs, monsters, your field of vision, grouped players, and more. Next to your quest log you have the actual minimap, which is more of a see through road map with markings. These markings can be changed based on the monster or quest you are tracking, which allows for very easy questing as you no longer have to search online forums or through all the quest text to find where 1 guy is hiding out.

gallery_9599_243_4665467.png

Races:

In total, there are seven races available and yes, your choice matters! Each race provides fairly unique racial abilities, and with that also comes the size advantage. While Elin and Popori are tiny races giving them the advantage of less hit boxes, they also have some of the poorest racial abilities. The Aman and Baraka on the other hand stand tall and will be much easier to hit; but in turn gain some very useful abilities making them much more resilient. So choose wisely!

Leveling:

One of the beauties of TERA is it actually allows players to level how they want. Monsters have fairly good drop rates and give a good amount of experience, so solo grinding is a viable option (if that is how you wish to play). Questing is still probably the best option as it advances the story, and it is fairly necessary to return to towns from time to time. When you start to find boss monsters the game returns presents you with another viable option of group grinding, as these monsters give very good experience, money, and drops. Combine this with the entertainment of the action combat and suddenly grinding isn't so much of a bother.

Combat:

TERA moves away from the standard “tab and spam” combat that has been around since the 90’s. The game revolves heavily around a reticle targeting systme for all of your abilities, with some exception, and plays much more like one would expect from a monster hunter game. Why does this make such a big difference? It removes a large portion of RNG from the game, giving control of actually landing hits, or resisting them, to the player. The down side comes in the form of how lag will influence combat, most specificity PvP.

gallery_9599_243_390741.png

Melee Combat:

If you enjoy games like God of War, Monster Hunter, etc. Then you will likely be very happy with the combat provided in TERA. Melee combat revolves around closing the gap and really punishing your opponent while at the same time dodge rolling or blocking (yes, you actually have to hold your shield up to block!) to avoid taking damage. With many options to close distance, deal damage, and control the flow of battle, Melee combat becomes an incredibly fun way to play the game.

Ranged Combat/ Healing:

Ranged combat plays heavily on the reticle targeting system as melee does, however there are a few differences. Ranged combatants, depending on class, gain access to traps, ranged AOE, player based AoE, and heals. Due to the nature of the combat system, it would be almost impossible to land some of these abilities, thus making them fairly useless. To fix this some ranged abilities use a lock-on system to make them viable. Does this break the combat and make ranged overpowered? Unfortunately PvP has been very limited in the beta and thus it is hard to tell at this point. However, from my experience the debuffs, dots, and basic lock-on damage attacks do fairly low damage, similar to a players auto attack, and leans more towards not actually breaking PvP combat. However, this is something the developers need to monitor.

Boss Monsters / Dungeons /Group Play:

This is probably the most fun I have had in a game leveling in my 20’s. Grouping up with a few friends, we tempted to grind basilisks (the first abundant tough monster available). These monsters have around 5- 10 times the amount of HP as normal monsters, give less visible signs of the attacks they do, and really require players to pay attention, less get hit for a quarter to half their HP. I was very impressed with the group combat dynamics this early on, and only makes me excited for the challenges further down the road.

Unfortunately my group didn’t get to the point of doing the first major dungeon in the game, however I can only imagine it is scaled up from the dungeon on the Isle of Dawn; if so TERA will be a game that will both challenge PvE players in a brand new way, and be much less of a “farm” as so many other MMO games become.

Crafting:

Unfortunately I didn’t get into the crafting system too much. However from what I saw, it really isn’t anything too impressive at the basic level. If you played Aion, it is essentially the same system with the exception that you automatically have access to all gathering and crafting skills. Crafting appears to go up to a skill of 410, and while crafting it is possible to “bonus” giving you either more of what you craft or possibly better items.

Enchanting:

A nice feature for gear upgrading, TERA gives players the option of using all the junk weapons and armor they find to upgrade their own equipment by use of the Enchanting system. The menu can be opened anywhere in the game, and as long as you carry around some alkahest (a common material found on general merchants) you plop your item in, some alkahest, and the excess gear, and you can start the process. It is important to note that not all gear is upgradable, so this isn't always the case to keep your gear updated.

gallery_9599_243_391576.png

Guilds:

Unfortunately not something I got around to, however there are a few things I picked up on. Guilds do have a leveling system to them. The way to level a guild up is via message boards (located in major towns) that provide guild quests. Likely bonuses will be provided through guild levels and will also likely be required to take part in the political system.

Glyphs:

Most games use a Talent tree system, TERA instead uses Glyphs. Players are able to customize their abilities towards their play style with the use of adding glyphs to their abilities. This system works by giving an augment (some abilities have upwards of 7 choices) to specific abilities to either make them do more damage, additional effects, change the speed or damage of a follow-up ability, etc. To balance this system glyph points are used, giving value to each glyph and of course more points are avalible as you level.

gallery_9599_243_1498727.png

The Way I See It:

Overall the game has some very strong content to offer, and an entertaining combat system to enjoy. There are plenty of elements that continue to add depth and entertainment to TERA. The combat system is a very nice change that has rarely been seen in the MMO industry thus far (exceptions would include Tabula Rasa, Vindictus, and Darkfall). If successful, it will add another layer of skill for all players. However there is one downfall; based on initial feedback players experienced lag issues, mainly with PvP. This is a very serious issue and may very well hinder the game if not fixed.

Several elements of the game I still would like to see more of; namely Open World PvP, Guilds, and the Political system; However even without that, the game could prove to be a very fun game with the PvE alone... as long as content can continue to prove entertaining and challenging. Of course this is no excuse to drop the other elements as an entire package is what I signed up for.

I had a blast with the beta. The combat was very refreshing and it actually required me to pay attention and think about what I was doing as opposed to other games where I just tab onto a target and start pressing the same buttons over and over again. I'm disappointed that the same "Fedex" type quests from other games were here, but the combat was so fun and interesting I was able to look past it. I look forward to seeing how end game plays out and how server vs server political world PvP works.

I played the NA and the EU Beta and love it so far. The first Dungeon is boring as fuck though, it is not challenging what so ever. Barely any damage is taken haha hopefully the new ones are harder.

Do you think its a very Promising game?

Tera has potential. If En Masse can work out their server issues then I believe Combat, and to a larger extent PvP, will work well and be very fun. However the action-combat system is definitely the driving point of this game. Most other aspects are basically what you would expect from a fantasy MMO, questing is pretty much more of the same, and crafting is identical to Aion.

As long as the game continues to pose more of a challenge as you level (which was noticeable in the beta from 1-22) and dungeons start to really challenge the group, then yes this game will be really fun to play.

Do you mean the dungeon on Isle of Dawn or Bastion? I know Isle of Dawn is cakewalk and is kinda meant to be, however I didn't get into Bastion because some people in my group were slaking; although i do expect it to be pretty easy as it is the first real dungeon. But yes, hopefully the new one this weekend gives more of a challenge.

Secret Base Is what it was called. I didn't even know there was a 2nd one. I will try it next friday or this friday if I level up enough in the U.S. BETA

You wrote this very well, it was interesting to read for sure.

I would just like to say though. The woman on in the first picture... Yeah, I don't think her armor will protect her from much.

Also, if the lag issue is resolved, do you see this becoming a particularly popular game?

The above race isn't as sexist as it seems. Their male counter-parts are also constantly half naked.

First off, thank you :)

Second, yeah but thats the old MMO adage: less armor = more protection some how o.O

As far as lag, it is an issue based on the servers as far as I can tell (meaning not in coding, thus it is fixable by the NA publisher) and second it was not personal experience as I really didn't experience lag, which could be due to a number of reasons. I just read several opinions that stated PvP lag was aparent.

TERA could very well have a decient sized community as it is a pretty fun game. We still have yet to see much of the political system and how it will affect the game. Unfortunatly TERA may also fall into the same issues as Aion where it is marketed as a PvP game, but just cannot deliver.

TLDR; TERA is very interesting and provides a very fun combat system, however with such little information it is hard to say if this will be the MMO of 2012.
